Win a place at Whittlebury's Trilby golf tournament

Date Posted:30/05/2018

Northamptonshire countryside venue Whittlebury Park is offering amateur golfers the chance to win a place in the prestigious 2018 regional William Hunt Trilby Tour.

On Wednesday 30 May, a pre-championship qualifying event will take place at Whittlebury, with two spaces in the Northamptonshire Trilby Tour regional championship on 28 June up for grabs.

The competition will be split into two divisions, for handicaps up to and including 12.4, and for 12.5 – 24.4. The 1st place winner from each division will win a place in the Trilby Tour regional championship, with a hotel spa break at Whittlebury for the 2nd place golfers and trophies for the top three in each division.

This year will be the first time that Whittlebury has hosted the Trilby Tour, which is widely considered to be the closest experience to a professional tournament for amateur golfers.

The Trilby Tour, now going into its 11th year, will visit Whittlebury on Thursday 28 June as one of 10 regional championships. Sky Sports, which will be televising the tour, anticipates an audience of 3.5 million for the regional championships and international final.

Whittlebury’s 36-hole championship golf course, which dates back to 1905 and once formed part of the Royal Whittlewood Forest, has been chosen by tour organisers for its challenging layout, diversity of the holes and the dedication and commitment the team have shown to making this regional the best one of the season.

The regional championship at Whittlebury will be open to spectators, with many diehard Trilby Tour fans attending every year to witness the ‘winner takes all’ competitive format, which culminates in a 3-hole shootout to decide the champion.

The entry fee for the pre-championship qualifying event is £40 per person, including 18 holes of golf and tea, coffee and bacon rolls on arrival.
