Training, Training, Training
There is no doubt that as we emerge from the current economic winter, organizations will behave differently - partly because enormous changes have resulted from ‘restructuring’ and the reorganisation of responsibilities – but also because significant and additional regulation and oversight will be part of the price to be paid for the enormous public investment in the financial sector.
There can equally be little doubt that there are many individuals and teams of people who will have to grasp the nettle of additional qualification, formal certification or documented training to be able to work in areas that were previously as much if not more about experience than structured and progressive professional training and development.
Whether you talk of the RDR (Retail Distribution Review) and its impact across the financial services industry or the need for management training to prepare for the period of growth that will surely follow – training will be an area that will move centre stage in the very near future.
As in previous economic downturns, many organizations in both the private and public sectors will have ‘de-layered’ and removed swathes of management so as to take the most cost out of the organization whilst striving to maintain customer service and delivery.
What will happen to these shoestring teams when business picks up again? How will they manage the pent-up feelings of teams that have been working under significant personal pressure and perhaps having taken over responsibility for areas where they are less comfortable? How will we restore confidence in both ourselves and our customers in the aftermath of these most challenging times?
As with most rhetorical questions, the answer is both obvious and yet unlikely to be given the attention and focus it deserves. We must see the way forward, decide on who will need to do what and then provide them with the skills and abilities to do it consistently well. You cannot enjoy the view until you have climbed the hill and the self-confidence and knowledge that is needed to elevate an individual with a great attitude to a solid professional will only come through appropriate and timely training and development.
Our company has been a specialist provider of residential and day delegate training facilities since 1984. Our two centres are purpose built to provide the ideal learning environment where the pressures on trainers are understood, where the facilities totally support the objectives of the training sponsor and where delegates are looked after so that both during and after the training day real outcomes are seen.
